Niigata University is currently accepting applications for its Doctoral Double Degree Program (DDP) for April 2026 admission. This program is offered in partnership with NTNU\u2019s College of Science and aims to cultivate globally capable researchers through joint academic supervision.<\/p>

Students admitted to this program will be simultaneously enrolled at both Niigata University and NTNU. They will complete coursework, conduct joint research, and write their dissertation under the co-supervision of advisors from both institutions. Upon successful completion, they will be awarded doctoral degrees from both universities.<\/p>

\ud83d\udccc Admission Options
Applicants may choose from two admission pathways:<\/p>

Option 1: With travel expense support from Niigata University (partial support for transportation and local stay)<\/p>

Option 2: Without financial support (self-funded). Academic content and degrees awarded are the same in both cases.<\/p>

If an applicant chooses Option 1 but is not selected for financial support, they may still enroll as a self-funded DDP student.<\/p>

\ud83d\udccc Who Is Eligible
Students currently enrolled at NTNU College of Science (master\u2019s or doctoral level), who will meet the doctoral entrance requirements at the time of enrollment<\/p>

Students must be capable of engaging in international collaborative research and fulfilling degree requirements at both institutions<\/p>

Applicants are required to submit a valid official score report (taken within the past 3 years) of one of the following English tests:<\/p>

TOEIC (Listening and Reading only)<\/p>

IELTS Academic<\/p>

\ud83d\udccc Timeline and Suggestions
Although a fixed deadline has not been announced by Niigata University, applicants are strongly advised to complete preparations by Fall 2025, including approval of their proposed study plan and obtaining supervisor consent.
Online interviews are likely to be conducted around November 2025, with final results announced by early 2026. Students should be ready to arrive in Japan by early April 2026.<\/p>
