On September 23, Prof. Susan Solomon (MIT), the 7th Tang Prize laureate in Sustainable Development, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by NTNU and delivered a keynote lecture titled “Science, Society, and Solvable Environmental Problems: Rays of Hope.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing from historical milestones such as combating air pollution leading to the Clean Air Act and the banning of DDT, Prof. Solomon highlighted how public action and environmental policies have successfully driven technological innovation. She emphasized three crucial conditions for solving environmental issues: personal impact, public awareness, and practical solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing current global warming challenges, she noted that while keeping warming under 1.5\u00b0C is immensely difficult, staying within 2\u00b0C remains achievable if we translate scientific understanding into concrete action, inspiring the younger generation to lead climate solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
