My name is Pham Thi Huong, the English name that few people know is Alice, a master’s student in Structural Geomechanics laboratory. I was born, raised in Thanh Hoa province, a small province 200 km south of Hanoi, Vietnam. From the first year of undergraduate student of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, after taking many orientation classes and extracurricular activities, I was more attracted to Geosciences and Geoengineering. It is a major that has opened up for me new opportunities, continuing to study graduate program at the Department of Earth Sciences, National Taiwan Normal University. After 3 months of waiting for the results of the interview and scholarship\u2019s application. In May 2018, I received an admission letter from the Department of Earth Sciences. In September 2018, I headed to Taiwan to start a new life.
Department of Earth Sciences, Nation Taiwan Normal University is an indispensable part of my life during my two years of Master’s program, it is marking all memories I will never forget, it is where I feel my true maturity in all aspects, from scientific research awareness to the personal\u2019s thinking. My major is structural geology in Structural Geomechanism Laboratory, and I received the guidance of Professor En-Chao Yeh. Professor together with his assistant and lab members always give me the best conditions and the best chance to complete the study program. During those two years, thanks to the enthusiastic support of the school, faculty leaders and staffs, all professors, I had the opportunity to participate in many field trips in Taiwan and Japan. The field trips have almost all links with major universities such as UConn University, Penn State University from the US, Kyushu University from Japan, and National Taiwan University from Taiwan. These field trips provide opportunities for me to learn, discuss, and exchange the skills and knowledge and also to make friends with many international students. Moreover, it is an opportunity for me to find chances for employment and study after graduation. In this time, I also had the opportunity to attend two international conferences in the fields of Earth Sciences including Taiwan Geological Association (TGA) 2019 held in Taipei, Taiwan and Fall Meeting 2019 organized annually by the American Geophysics Union in San Francisco, California, USA. The seminar visits are the times when I have accessed to the latest scientific research, experience and connection with many international friends, discussed and exchanged with leading professors in geology matter, as well as receiving positive comments and contributions to perfecting their scientific research.
Studying, working as well as being a member under Prof. Yeh \u2018s family, the roof of Earth Sciences is one of my greatest honor during the time studying, researching and living in Taiwan.
