Application for Exchange Students at the Faculty of Science, Niigata University (Spring 2026)

The College of Science, NTNU, has an active student exchange agreement with the Faculty of Science, Niigata University. The application for the Spring 2026 Exchange Student Program is now open. Students of the College of Science are warmly encouraged to apply.

Internal application deadline for preliminary review:
November 10, 2025 (Mon.)

Eligibility

Applicants must be regular undergraduate or master’s students from Niigata University’s partner universities, have good academic standing, sufficient language proficiency, and obtain a letter of recommendation from their department head or academic advisor. Applicants must also be in good physical and mental condition to participate in the program.

Program Duration

  1. Spring Semester 2026: April 1 – August 31 (Classes begin in early April)

  2. Fall Semester 2026: October 1 – February 28 (Classes begin in early October)

Students may choose to study for one or two semesters.

Required Documents

All application documents must be submitted through NTNU (the partner university). Direct applications from individuals will not be accepted. Required items include the application form with photo, transcript, recommendation letter, proof of enrollment, passport copy, health certificate, COE form, financial documents, two photos, and language proficiency certificates. Tuition and Credits

Exchange students will be registered as “Special Auditing Students.” Both the admission and tuition fees are waived. Students will receive an official transcript upon completion of the program, and credit transfer will be determined by NTNU.

Courses Offered

Exchange students may take specialized courses offered in English or other languages, Japanese language and culture classes, or regular degree courses taught mainly in Japanese. Course syllabi and class timetables are available at the above websites.

Housing and Visa

Niigata University provides assistance in applying for international student housing and covers part of the initial move-in cost. The university also applies for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) on behalf of admitted students, enabling them to apply for a student visa efficiently using the electronic COE version.

Additional Information

Admission results are expected to be announced by January 10, 2026. Students should consult NTNU regarding credit transfer before applying. Part-time work is generally prohibited unless approved under special circumstances.
