[College of Science] Call for Applications: 2026 Fall Student Exchange Program at Kyushu University (KYU)

The College of Science at NTNU is inviting applications for the Fall 2026 Student Exchange Program at the Schools of Science, Kyushu University (KYU), Japan.

Internal Selection Timeline

  • Application Deadline: 17:00, Monday, March 16, 2026.
  • Result Announcement: Late March 2026.
  • Final Nomination to KYU: Early May 2026 (KYU official deadline: May 15, 2026).

Eligibility and Quota

  • Target Applicants: Undergraduate (must have completed at least one year of study at NTNU), Master’s, and Doctoral students within the College of Science.
  • Exchange Quota: A total of 4 units are available for this academic year.
    • One academic year (two semesters) = 2 units.
    • One semester = 1 unit.
  • Language Proficiency (TOEIC is NOT accepted):
    • For Japanese-taught courses: JLPT N1 certificate.
    • For English-taught courses: TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.0 (or above).

Stage 1: Required Documents for Internal Selection

Applicants must consolidate the following documents into a single PDF file (Filename: Student ID_Department_Name) and email it to Mr. Chen (ptm105_9467@ntnu.edu.tw) by 17:00, March 16, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered.

  1. Application Letter: * Format: Must be written in English, limited to one A4 page.
    • Content: Include self-introduction, motivation, study plan, and clearly state the intended exchange duration (One Semester or One Year).
  2. Official Academic Transcript: Chinese version is acceptable for the internal selection stage. (The English version will be required for the final nomination).
  3. Proof of Language Proficiency: (Copy of JLPT N1 or TOEFL iBT 79/IELTS 6.0 scores).

Stage 2: Formal Documents for Nominated Students

Nominated students must prepare the following official documents by late April for submission to KYU:

  1. KYU Official Application Form.
  2. English Enrollment Certificate.
  3. Official English Academic Transcript.
  4. Letter of Recommendation from an academic advisor (must include a signature).
  5. Photocopy of Passport.
  6. Original Language Proficiency Certificate/Official Score Report.
  7. Acceptance Letter from a prospective KYU supervisor (Required for “Special Research Students” only).

Important Notice (Please Read Carefully)

  • Exchange Duration: You must specify your intended duration in the application letter. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  • Language Policy: TOEIC scores are NOT recognized for this program. Only TOEFL iBT or IELTS is accepted for the English track.
  • Nomination vs. Admission: Selection by the College only grants “Nominated” status. The final admission decision is solely determined by Kyushu University.
  • Student Responsibility: Nominated students are responsible for preparing all formal materials in April. The College is not liable for any rejection due to late or incomplete documentation.
  • Financials & Insurance: Tuition, application, and matriculation fees at KYU are waived. However, students must cover their own living expenses, airfare, and visa fees. Students must purchase the Japanese National Health Insurance and PAS insurance. Please evaluate your financial situation carefully before applying to avoid withdrawing later and depriving others of the opportunity.
