I. Introduction and Regulations:
This program is jointly administered by the College of Science, NTNU, and the Graduate School of Science and Technology (GSST), Niigata University. Participating students must maintain simultaneous enrollment at both institutions.
Mandatory Requirement: Applicants MUST find and consult with a prospective academic advisor at Niigata University before applying and prepare their research plan under the advisor’s guidance.
Benefits: Successful applicants will be exempted from tuition, admission, and registration fees at Niigata University.
II. Duration and Quota
Quota: A total of 5 students.
Duration of Study: The exchange period is typically one academic year.
Extensions of up to one additional year may be approved upon mutual consent.
Degree Awarding: Doctoral degrees will be conferred separately by each institution. Dissertations and final oral examinations must be conducted in English.
III. Checklist of Required Documents
All documents must be in English and bear an official seal and signature.
- Application Form for Admission: Use the designated form with a 4cm x 3cm photograph plus two extra photos.
- Certificate of (Expected) Completion: Official Master’s degree completion certificate.
- Official Academic Transcripts: Covering both Master’s and current Doctoral programs.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: One from the Dean of the College and one from the academic advisor.
- Overview of Master’s Thesis: Or a Research Progress Report.
- Overview of Research Achievement: Lists of publications, conference presentations, and patent offprints.
- Study and Research Plan: Use the designated form to explain research theme, objectives, and methodologies.
- English Language Proficiency Test Score: Original report of TOEFL, TOEIC (L&R), or IELTS Academic taken within the last three years.
- Certificate of Enrollment or Admission Letter Copy.
- Copy of Passport: Pages showing photograph and nationality.
IV. Important DatesInternal Application Deadline: 5PM, Thursday, April 2, 2026.
Selection Process: Based on document evaluation and an interview. Interviews will be held between May 14 and May 28, 2026.
Announcement of Decision: July 2, 2026.
