To promote academic exchange between Taiwan and Japan and foster young talents in Japan Studies, the Taiwan-Japan Cultural and Economic Association is holding the 2026 “Japan Studies Essay Competition for Universities and Colleges”. Generous monetary prizes and awards will be presented to outstanding entries. All eligible undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Science are warmly encouraged to participate!
1. Categories & Topics
(1) Graduate Student Category (Master’s Students, incl. International Students)
- Sub-categories: Economics Group & Culture Group.
- Eligibility & Topic: Degree dissertations/theses completed within the past 3 years. The topic should focus on Japanese studies or Taiwan-Japan comparative studies in the fields of culture or economics, emphasizing practical value and academic contribution.
- Languages: Chinese, Japanese, or English.
- Required Documents: Certificate of Enrollment or Graduation, Letter of Recommendation from Advisor (any format), and Dissertation Abstract (approx. 5,000 words, strictly anonymized).
(2) Undergraduate Student Category (Bachelor’s Students, incl. International Students)
- Essay Topic:

- Topic Prompt: Both Taiwan and Japan face challenges such as aging populations, low birth rates, disaster prevention, multicultural coexistence, and regional revitalization. With the rapid growth of AI technology, what new forms of collaboration can be developed between Taiwan and Japan?
- Word Count: English/Japanese: approx. 6,000 words baseline; Chinese: 3,000–5,000 words.
- Required Documents: Certificate of Enrollment and Short Essay (strictly anonymized).

- Strict AI Policy: Using AI tools to generate paper structures, core arguments, paragraphs, or conclusions is strictly prohibited to ensure originality and fairness.
- Anonymity: All abstracts and short essays undergo double-blind review. Please do NOT include your name, advisor’s name, or university name in the submitted essay file.
2. Submission Procedures & Key Dates

office.tjcea@gmail.comby Monday, November 30, 2026 to complete registration. - Review & Results: Review completes by late December 2026. Graduate category finalists may be invited for an interview. Awards ceremony will be held in February 2027.

- 3rd Place: Cash Prize NT$5,000 + Postal Voucher NT$1,000, Certificate & Trophy.
- Undergraduate Group:
- 1st Place (1 winner): Cash Prize NT$10,000 + Postal Voucher NT$4,000, Certificate & Trophy.
- 2nd Place (1 winner): Cash Prize NT$7,000 + Postal Voucher NT$2,000, Certificate & Trophy.
- 3rd Place (2 winners): Cash Prize NT$5,000 + Postal Voucher NT$2,000, Certificate.
4. Submission Formatting Guidelines
- Page Setup: A4 size, single-column layout, left-to-right text direction. Margins: Top 3 cm, Bottom 2 cm, Left 3 cm, Right 3 cm. Page numbers centered at bottom.
- Typography: Times New Roman for English, 標楷體 for Chinese, 明朝体 for Japanese. Font size: 12 pt throughout body text. Line spacing 1.25.
