An “exchange student” refers to a student who, during their period of study, maintains enrollment at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) (i.e., completing NTNU registration and paying tuition fees) while attending a partner institution with a student exchange agreement for one semester or one academic year. Exchange students are exempt from paying tuition fees at the host institution. Upon completion of the program, they will receive an official transcript or course completion certificate issued by the host institution.
- University-Level Exchange
NTNU has established student exchange agreements with nearly 200 higher education institutions worldwide. NTNU students may participate in the university-level selection process for exchange opportunities at these partner institutions. For detailed information, please refer to the University-Level Exchange Program Overview (Chinese Website). - College-Level Exchange
The College of Science has signed student exchange agreements with the science and engineering-related faculties of Osaka University, Tohoku University, and Niigata University in Japan, as well as the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne in Germany. However, if either institution fails to send the agreed number of students for exchange, the agreement may be temporarily suspended until the balance is restored. For more details, please refer to the College-Level Partner Institutions List or the latest announcements from the College of Science. - Department-Level Exchange
The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering has signed a student exchange agreement with Uppsala University in Sweden, while the Graduate Institute of Science Education has established an exchange agreement with the Faculty of Mathematics and Science at Malang State University in Indonesia. For further details, please refer to the Department-Level Partner Institutions List or the latest announcements from the respective departments.
The Dual Degree Program refers to an academic arrangement between two partner institutions, allowing undergraduate or graduate students to complete a portion of their studies at their home institution for a specified period before continuing their studies at the partner institution. Students will fulfill the remaining required credits at the partner institution, and upon meeting the graduation requirements of both institutions, they will be awarded degrees from both schools. This program provides an additional pathway for international students to study in Taiwan, while also enabling domestic students to pursue studies abroad under the same framework.

In addition to participating in the university’s exchange programs, students may also choose to study abroad at their own expense while maintaining their enrollment status at NTNU. This short-term study option allows students to attend an overseas university for one quarter, one semester, or one academic year, without being restricted to NTNU’s partner institutions. Internationally, such students are commonly referred to as Visiting Students or Guest Students.
Visiting students are responsible for covering tuition fees at the host institution; however, their rights and privileges are generally similar to those of exchange students. Upon returning to NTNU, students may apply for credit transfer in accordance with university regulations. Before applying, students are strongly advised to carefully review the Visiting Student Program Guide (Chinese Website) provided by the Office of International Affairs (OIA).
